STIIZY Lawsuits

STIIIZY downplayed the potential risks for young people and instead promoted the side effects as completely positive. For example, they stated their products would provide “a boost in mental clarity and creativity, with a dreamy cerebral state and euphoria, along with potential relief from chronic pain, headaches, depression and anxiety.

By presenting their vaping products as solutions for stress and anxiety without adequately warning of the risks, STIIIZY and similar companies contribute to a decline in the perceived harm of cannabis among teenagers.

It's time to hold companies like STIIIZY accountable for their actions. We must protect our youth from the dangers of high-potency cannabis vaping products and ensure that companies are transparent about the risks associated with their products.

Case Overviews

Case 1: John Doe

  • At 15, the plaintiff (who is referred to as John Doe) was an honor student and star athlete when he first experienced cannabis-induced psychosis after using STIIIZY products. He became hysterical and agitated from using STIIIZY cannabis vapes, leading to hallucinations, hysteria, and ultimately a hospitalization that required a stay at a psychiatric ward and antipsychotic medication. He continued to have psychotic delusions for months following the major psychosis reaction.

  • After this traumatic event, Doe continues to deal with the risk of future psychosis and other mental health issues if he vapes again. Doe missed substantial school time and athletic activities and changed his future plans to account for his injuries and potential relapse.

Case 2: K.G.

  • At age 16, plaintiff, named as KG, was exposed to STIIIZY’s advertising online and on social media, which included claims that their cannabis vapes can be appropriated as solutions for stress and anxiety. Drawn by their easy-to-use design and sweet flavors, he began using a STIIIZY vape and later experienced two episodes of psychosis. During these episodes, he suffered from delusions and hallucinations, losing touch with reality and believing he was a celebrity. During a cannabis-induced psychosis episode, KG put himself in dangerous situations and went missing before his family found him and was able to get him hospitalized.

  • Following the episodes, KG required treatment at both a behavioral health facility and an addiction treatment center including antipsychotic medication. KG remains at high risk of relapse and his family remains concerned for his well-being.

Case 3:

Jane Doe 1

  • At age 14, the plaintiff (referred to as Jane Doe 1) was exposed to STIIIZY's advertising online, on social media, and through her peers, which promoted the company’s cannabis vapes as trendy, discreet, and beneficial for relaxation and stress relief. Drawn by the colorful designs, odorless nature, and popularity of the products at her high school, she began using STIIIZY vapes regularly. She then experienced severe mental health issues, including paranoia, hallucinations, and delusions. She believed people were spying on her, heard voices, and attempted suicide twice in 2020, once by running into traffic and again by ingesting a bottle of Tylenol.

  • As a result of her vaping-induced psychosis, Jane Doe 1 struggled academically and dropped out midway through her senior year. She required psychiatric intervention and continues to suffer from lasting psychological damage.

Jane Doe 2

  • At 13, the plaintiff (referred to as Jane Doe 2) was a middle school student when she first experienced cannabis-induced psychosis after using STIIIZY products. The high-potency THC vapes caused her to suffer from paranoia, hallucinations, and intrusive thoughts, leading to severe anxiety, depression, and self-harm. Her behavior became erratic, and she often believed people were breaking into her home. This decline in mental health caused her to disengage from school, eventually dropping out during high school.

  • Following this traumatic experience, Jane Doe 2 continues to suffer from anxiety, PTSD, and frequent headaches. Her psychiatric injuries prevent her from completing her education or maintaining employment. She now faces lasting damage and the risk of further mental health crises.
